What do I need to know about when using my card abroad?

If you are going abroad and intending to use your card then there are some things worth taking into consideration.

Registering your travel plans with us can reduce the likelihood of your personal debit or credit card transactions being blocked. If you are signed up for Digital Banking you can log on and register details of your trip yourself.

All you need to do is select 'Cards' from the left hand menu and register your travel plans in the 'Using your cards abroad' section. For debit cards select 'Register your travel plans for your debit card' and for credit cards select 'Register your travel plans for your credit card'.

Alternatively you can call Telephone Banking where our staff would be happy to help do this for you. Just make sure you let us know at least 24 hours in advance.

Please note: Customers under the age of 16 will not be able to register their travel plans online, however they can do so by calling telephone banking.

  • Are your phone numbers (especially mobile numbers) up to date? This will enable us to contact you should we detect unusual activity on your card.
  • Are you fully enrolled for our telephone or online services? Having a security number and a password will allow you access to our full range of services.
  • Have you taken note of our international phone numbers?
