How do I submit a Subject Access Request (SAR)?

You can submit a Subject Access Request (SAR) by using the following steps.

To submit a Subject Access Request you are required to:

  • Submit a signed written request or complete the optional SAR form (.PDF 82KB)
  • Attach a statutory fee of £10.00 by cheque or postal order made payable to; The Royal Bank of Scotland
  • Subject Access Requests should always be sent directly to:

Subject Access Request Team
Shared Operations
2nd Floor North
Drummond House
1 Redheughs Avenue
EH12 9JN.

The request doesn't have to specify it's a SAR or refer to the DPA (Data Protection Act); it can be a general request for personal information. This is important as the bank has a regulatory deadline of 40 days from the request being received into the bank.

The request needs to be signed by the party seeking the information (joint request would require both signatures).

If you’re requesting specific information this can be expressed within the letter/form, this will assist us in meeting the request more efficiently.

If your name has changed, then we will require relevant proof of this change, e.g. original copy of marriage certificate certified by Branch.
